Detox is a critical part of addiction treatment for alcohol use disorder. During detoxification, the body rids itself of alcohol and other substances and re-stabilizes itself so that a person can function without physical withdrawal symptoms. Once a person is free from substances and is medically stable, they are able to continue receiving substance abuse treatment through an outpatient or inpatient treatment program.

Located in Newport Beach, just a short drive from San Diego, CA, Ocean Recovery offers a wide range of services to treat substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health issues. While our rehab facility does not offer in-house detox, we can coordinate medical detoxification for our clients before they transfer to our men’s or women’s treatment programs.

Detox Program Coordination Services

The team at Ocean Recovery can coordinate alcohol detox at one of our San Diego area partner facilities before you enter our inpatient or outpatient program.

In addition to helping rid your body of substances, the detox process is invaluable in determining what co-occurring disorders an individual may be dealing with and treating them accordingly. Mental health, physical health, and substance abuse all affect one another and sometimes it can be difficult to determine what is causing a particular symptom. The trained medical staff at our partner detox centers can help identify mental health conditions and physical health issues and supply the appropriate medication.

Following detox, the team at Ocean Recovery can arrange for you to be transferred to our Newport Beach alcohol treatment center, just a 90 minute drive from San Diego. From transportation to medication management to ensuring you have the personal items you need, we will take care of the details so that you can focus on your healing.

Other Addiction Treatment Services Offered at Ocean Recovery

Family Services

In both our men’s and women’s addiction treatment programs, we involve the family members and loved ones of our clients as much as possible in the treatment process. Healing damaged relationships, working through emotions, and developing new communication skills can aid in relapse prevention and help create a stable foundation for long-term recovery. We have found that this process is not only valuable for the clients themselves, but can also be healing and relieving for family members who may themselves be struggling. Our women’s treatment program also offers 4-day intensive family workshops every other month.

Yoga and Spirituality

As part of our holistic approach to addiction recovery, we offer a variety of therapeutic services and practices that allow individuals in our treatment programs to heal from the inside out. These include yoga, spirituality groups, meditation groups, and 12-Step based activities. We have found that clients who participate in this optional programming are able to build emotional awareness, resilience, self esteem, physical fitness and mental health.

Medication Management

Medication Management is an important aspect of alcohol and drug addiction treatment. If clients have a psychiatric condition, such as bipolar disorder or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), these will need to be addressed in conjunction with any substance abuse treatment. Our clients meet one-on-one with a psychiatrist to determine which medications will be necessary to help stabilize them and give them the best chance at a healthy, fulfilling sober life. We also provide targeted case management for our clients to ensure the treatments prescribed continue to be effective as they progress in their recovery journey.

Eating Disorder Treatment

The Ocean Recovery team is experienced in treating women with co-occurring eating disorders and addiction issues. Using education, nutrition counseling, intensive therapy, and life skills training, we are able to help clients restore health and vitality to their bodies while simultaneously healing from substance abuse.

Mental Health Services

Ocean Recovery provides both individual therapy and group counseling services through our inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. Mental health treatment is essential to addiction recovery because it allows individuals to understand the root causes of their substance abuse, such as trauma, past experiences, challenging relationships, family history of alcohol or drug use, and mental illness. Addressing these issues in a safe and supportive environment can provide holistic healing that makes long term recovery possible. Our therapists incorporate various therapeutic modalities in group and individual sessions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Experiential Therapy/Psychodrama and Attachment-Based Therapy

Outpatient and Residential Services

Following detoxification, individuals struggling with substance abuse and addiction typically enter an outpatient or residential treatment program. Both types of programs have their unique benefits, depending on a client's situation and preferences. Ocean Recovery offers both a residential and outpatient rehab treatment program for substance use disorders in the San Diego area. Our outpatient program allows clients to continue with their work or school schedules and manage family responsibilities while in treatment. Our inpatient treatment program is more intensive, allowing clients to live on campus and receive daily support while building strong connections with other program participants. We operate two rehab centers in the San Diego area: one for men and one for women. We have discovered that providing gender-specific drug and alcohol rehab programs helps our clients feel comfortable and safe while in treatment.

How Medical Detox Works

Medical detox is an important step in the recovery journey that allows a person to rid their body of substances and become medically stable enough to enter an inpatient or outpatient treatment center. Detoxing without professional medical supervision is not advised, especially for a person with a chemical dependency on alcohol, because it can result in dangerous, even life threatening, withdrawal symptoms.

During detox from alcohol, a person is prescribed medications and treatments to help them “taper” off the effects of alcohol with minimal side effects of withdrawal. During this process, trained medical professionals check vital signs, assess withdrawal symptoms, and administer the necessary treatments in order to make the process safe and effective.

After being medically cleared, an individual can then enter inpatient or outpatient treatment programs to continue receiving the support and services they need for full recovery.
